Mechanical Shabbat Lighting, Built to Specification

Kosherlume designs and produces mechanical Shabbat lighting — purely physical dimming, B2B wholesale and bespoke manufacturing for communities worldwide.

What Kosherlume makes

Kosherlume designs and produces lighting for the Shabbat home and the institutions that serve observant communities. Every fixture we make is built around one idea: the light source stays on, and the user changes the light physically. Our lamps use a rotating mechanical shade or shutter that blocks or reveals the light path, so brightness is adjusted without switching any electrical circuit.

That single principle runs through the whole range — table lamps, wall-mounted sconces, desk lamps and ambient pillar lights — and it is the reason our products exist as a distinct category rather than as another decorative fitting.

How our lighting works
  • Continuous source. The emitter remains on; nothing on the light path switches the circuit.
  • Physical control. A 360° mechanical shade — or a twist-control shutter on our brass model — moves across the light path.
  • Indirect adjustment. The user acts on a mechanical part, not on the electricity.
  • No smart electronics. There is no dimmer module, touch control, remote or app in the light path.

Our mechanical shutter design is proprietary to Kosherlume.

Who we serve

Kosherlume works primarily with B2B buyers:

  • Wholesalers and retailers serving Jewish-community markets, including private-label and branded runs.
  • Hotels and hospitality groups furnishing guest rooms, suites and public areas for Sabbath-observant guests.
  • Community institutions — synagogues, community centres, schools and event halls.
  • Care and medical settings where residents keep Shabbat and staff need predictable lighting.
  • OEM / ODM partners developing bespoke fixtures from a design brief.

We are based across New York and Jerusalem, which keeps us close to both the North American and Israeli markets.

Compliance and certification

We build to compliance requirements and support Rabbinic review of our products and bespoke runs. Certification is arranged per product or per project, and documentation can be provided on request.

We deliberately do not display certification marks we cannot document for the specific model being purchased. If certification is a requirement for your project, tell us at the start — it is part of the design brief, not an afterthought.

Custom and OEM work

Beyond the catalogue, Kosherlume manufactures to specification. A bespoke engagement follows a defined cycle:

  1. Design brief — setting, mounting, dimensions, materials, light source, mechanism requirement and branding.
  2. Prototyping — a functional prototype built from the brief.
  3. Rabbinic review — the actual design reviewed by the relevant authority, in parallel with technical acceptance.
  4. Certification — issued against the reviewed design where required.
  5. Fulfilment — batch production, quality checks against the prototype, packaging and delivery.
How to work with us

Wholesale and bespoke orders begin with a conversation rather than a shopping cart. Send us your requirement — setting, quantity, materials, branding and any certification requirement — and we will respond with a specification and a quotation.
